The Tax Scammers are knocking on your door again
The warnings are out and the festive season is here for Tax Scammers.
Scammers are impersonating the ATO and it all looks very official. The Scam can come by either email or text, and they are using labels with a "myGov" highlighting that a refund is on it's way and to click the link.
There's only one course of Action if you receive anything from what purports to be the ATO.... Ignore, delete and block.
The ACCC has advised that these scams tell you that you're owed an income tax repayment and ask you to click a hyperlink and complete a form.
You'll then be directed to a pretty good copy of the ATO website where you will be asked for personal information including your credit card details and even your bank information.
It is pretty easy to get sucked in. The sites look very official, but by no means do you bother with it. Immediately dispose of the text or communication by blocking the sender. Don't leave it on your phone, you might get caught in a weak moment and do something silly.
Just so you know, Gotax nor the ATO will ask you to click any hyperlink or ask you for bank details or personal information through an email or text.
Just don't do it.
