Tax Deductions for Adult Workers

Just like any other occupation, if you need to buy stuff for work, you can claim it as a tax deduction on your etax return. 

So, let’s take a look at what Adult Industry workers may be able to claim: 

Car Expenses – if you need to use your car for work you can claim the expenses as a tax deduction on your tax return. However, there are certain types of travel that you can claim e.g. from one workplace to another.

Phone – keep a one-month log book each year of any work-related calls or texts you needed to make on your personal phone to claim a tax deduction. 

Clothing – you can claim a tax deduction for the cost of buying or mending clothing that’s unique to your job e.g. lingerie. You can also claim the cost of laundering your clothes, the maximum laundry tax deduction you can claim is $150. If you have your clothes dry cleaned, make sure you keep all receipts to get the max tax deduction. 

Make Up – some stores sell brands of make up that are considered ‘stage make up’ this make up can be claimed as a tax deduction, you can also claim the products for removing the stage make up. General makeup is classed as a personal expense and can’t be claimed as a tax deduction. 

Consumables – if you need to buy things like condoms, lubricants, gels, tissues etc. keep your receipts and claim the cost on your etax return. 

Sex Toys/Equipment – If you need to purchase sex toys / equipment (e.g. vibrators) for work, you can claim the cost back as a tax deduction. The kinds of items are known as a ‘capital asset’ if the item is over $300, you’ll need to spread the tax deduction over a few years.
