2021 Tax: Is JobKeeper Taxable?

The simple answer is, yes.

JobKeeper was introduced by the Government to alleviate the financial strain on businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These JobKeeper payments are essentially a wage replacement, and just like your normal wages, you need to be taxed on these payments.

For Employees, nothing would have changed for you, it’s just like your normal wage procedure, your boss sets aside tax, reports this to the ATO, and pays you the remainder.

When it’s time to complete your income tax return, no extra work is needed by you. Given that reporting remained the same, your information is with the ATO, so when you’re ready we can immediately pull the data directly into your online income tax return.

For those who are self-employed, this information will not be prepopulated into your income tax return. So, if you’re not sure how much you received, let us know and we will get the total for you.
