Australian Tax Return | Tax Deadlines

What are the deadlines for doing your Income Tax Returns

Australian Tax Return Deadlines

Each year you can lodge your previous financial years tax return from 1 July until 31 October.

Registering and lodging with a Tax Agent, like GoTax Online, will grant you an extension past October 31st, this is usually the 15th May each year unless advised otherwise by the Tax Office.

Whether you need to lodge an Income tax return, or not, for the previous financial year, you still need to advise the Tax Office. This can be done by submitting a Non-Lodgment Advice for that particular year.

Overdue Income tax lodgments aren’t uncommon, sometimes they are forgotten or avoided. This doesn’t mean you can move on to the next year and not lodge the prior year. It’s important to keep up to date with your income tax return lodgements, failing to do so will incur penalties and fines from the Tax Office.

So, this may be your first-time lodging, but don’t make it your last. Regardless of whether you need to lodge, or not. Make sure you always let the Tax Office know or lodge on time.
